That night as I dozed off, my dream began with a bright green flash that exploded in to a bright flash of white light. Heart beating, I struggled to see. I couldn’t make out anything but I was calmed by the sweet smell of fresh Bajan sugar. As the bright light dimmed, I could now see very clearly a vision of our ancestors reaping the very same sugar cane fields that remain today. It was a vision of resilience and celebration. Somehow, it was clear that this was the beginning of our festival, where our legacy of Crop Over begins. It’s all in the sugar!
